Westlake Village and Long Beach Rhinoplasty (Nasal Surgery)

Whether it is because of heredity, trauma, or a developmental issue, there may be certain aspects of your nose you wish were different. Rhinoplasty offers you the chance to change the way your nose looks and the way you feel about your nasal appearance.

Westlake Village and Long Beach patients choose Dr. Mary Powers for their procedure because of her conservative, professional approach. She makes alterations that keep the nose in proportion to the rest of the face. This provides a more natural, balanced result so that the “over done or too small” nasal appearance can be avoided.

Rhinoplasty can be both a cosmetic procedure and a functional surgery since it may improve the patient’s ability to breathe through the nose. Dr. Powers can address nasal deformities, traumatic injuries, or problems from previous nasal procedures. Often, she performs nasal procedures in concert with other facial and body procedures to balance the new nasal appearance.

What to Expect

In your initial consultation, Dr. Powers will provide you with an overview of the surgery, discuss the outcomes you can expect, and answer questions you may have about the risks of surgery. She will also advise and recommend options to you about the specific concerns on which you want to focus. This might include:

  • A bump on the nose.
  • Narrowing the nasal tip.
  • Elevating a pointed or drooping tip.
  • Straightening or reshaping a nose that is asymmetric, wide, or too flat.

Westlake Village and Long Beach patients often want to know if the incisions will be visible. Dr. Powers can typically hide the single incision needed in the area called the columella. Dr. Powers will review with you other factors and risks involved in rhinoplasty.

About Recovery

After your procedure, you will likely wear a small plastic splint over the nose to protect it and to help you heal properly. It can be removed five to seven days after surgery.

You can also expect some bruising around the eyes for around 7-10 days. Swelling should be reduced within weeks and continue to improve over the months that follow. You may notice areas of sensitivity or numbness following your surgery, and these should also resolve within a few months. It’s not uncommon for patients to experience some temporary sinus or airway blockage and nasal drainage as the nose heals to its final shape.

Once these temporary conditions have been resolved, you should be able to gradually appreciate the results of your rhinoplasty: a nose that has been re-sculpted to look natural as well as balanced with your facial features to result in a more attractive facial appearance.
