Westlake Village and Long Beach Breast Lift / Breast Reduction

Dr. Mary Powers helps women achieve greater comfort, reduce pain, and improve their appearance through a breast lift or breast reduction.

She offers Westlake Village and Long Beach breast lift surgery (mastopexy) to create a more aesthetically-pleasing shape and position. If you have breasts that sag with excess skin but that are not overly large—conditions typical after breastfeeding or weight loss—you may be a good candidate for the procedure.

In a breast lift, Dr. Powers removes excess skin from the breasts while preserving their volume. In some cases, she may also recommend breast implants to achieve the shape and fullness that will offer the best appearance. Breast lifts are typically not covered by insurance.

Dr. Powers also assists Westlake Village and Long Beach patients with breast reduction surgery, or reduction mammoplasty. The operation can reduce the weight women with large breasts carry and can improve medical conditions, such as neck and back pain. As a result, your insurance may pay for this procedure. Check with your carrier for guidelines and exclusions, and take the time to review common risks of surgery.

What to Expect

Dr. Powers may choose from several different approaches for your procedure. This may include incisions around and between the areola and within the crease under the breast. Some operations and mastopexy in particular can be more limited.

Dr. Powers performs both breast lift and breast reduction procedures in certified surgical centers. Patients typically receive general anesthesia. Before your surgery, Dr. Powers will help you define your goals with the procedure, plan your surgery to accomplish these goals, and inform you with what to know during your recovery.

About Recovery

After surgery, you should be back to normal activity within about two weeks. You will likely experience discomfort, swelling, and discoloration around the breasts for several weeks.

Westlake Village and Long Beach patients are often concerned about the scarring that can follow breast procedures. Within 8-12 months, scars should become relatively inconspicuous. Embrace™ scar therapy may be recommended by Dr. Powers for the best scar outcome. The nipples and certain areas of your skin may be numb or oversensitive following your procedure. These symptoms should subside within a few months, but there is a chance that they can last longer, especially if there has been previous breast surgery.

After recovery, the typical breast lift or breast reduction patient will have the opportunity to enjoy a more attractively-contoured chest, less chronic pain, and a rejuvenated appearance. Gravity and aging will continue to impact the breasts over time, and so Dr. Powers balances procedures to preserve volume without contributing to future sagging.
