One of the earliest signs of aging that you may experience is a look of chronic fatigue or a lack of sleep. Dr. Powers offers Westlake Village and Long Beach patients blepharoplasty to correct this condition. The result of this procedure is that your eyes will appear more youthful, rested and alert.
Westlake Village and Long Beach patients may have blepharoplasty for the upper and lower eyelids (the procedure can address one or both in the same surgical session.) Incisions can be created so the scars are inconspicuous in the upper lid crease or below the lower eyelashes. The transconjuctival approach for the lower eyelids creates the incision on the inside of the eyelid with no visible scar. The eyelid incisions generally heal very well. Dr. Powers will discuss outcome benefits as as well as the risk/possible complications.
While the procedure does not address “crow’s feet” (wrinkles at the corner of the eye), Dr. Powers may recommend additional facial procedures to resolve these concerns.
What to Expect
Westlake Village and Long Beach patients can have blepharoplasty as an outpatient procedure, though you should have someone available to drive you home and to stay with you for the first 24 hours after your procedure for your comfort if possible.
Dr. Powers uses a local anesthetic combined with sedation for office procedures of the upper eyelid. She will talk with you about using general anesthesia if lower eyelid surgery and upper eyelid surgery are involved.
About Recovery
After your surgery, you can expect to get back to normal activities in about 5-7 days. You will need to avoid heavy exertion or exercise, and you may want to wear sunglasses or make-up to hide swelling and discoloration. About 2-3 weeks after surgery, your eyes should appear more rested, alert and youthful.
